Omar Auleear, a former student of Royal College Port Louis, is the beneficiary of the 2015 Scholarship by the MCB Foundation.
The official ceremony took place at the MCB premises on 07 July 2015, where Omar Auleear announced that he has opted for a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in Actuarial
Science from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
He highlighted: “I have always preferred Mathematics as a choice of subject and having done some research, I discovered that Australia is one of countries offering the maximun employment prospects for actuaries.”
Determined to succeed with hard work, team spirit, patience and discipline, our laureate stood out in the economics stream during the latest Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations.
It is during these examinations that the laureate, widely described as ‘ambitious’, was accredited by the MCB for being ranked first in Mathematics. Our scholarship recipient is grateful for this unique opportunity offered by the MCB Foundation.
“This scholarship offered me limitless opportunities to choose from among the best universities in the world, without worrying about financial constraints,” highlighted Omar.
Omar thus becomes the 27th beneficiary of the MCB Foundation Scholarship. This foundation was created on the 150th anniversary of the MCB, in 1988. Since then, the MCB grants a scholarship annually to one student who is awarded just after examinations in the field of economics at the HSC level. This scholarship allows the student to enrol for a degree at the university of their choice, with financial aid by the MCB that covers university expenses, air ticket fares and also, accommodation cost.
Finally, MCB brings not only financial support but also consulting assistance based on career advice over the duration of the scholarship beneficiary’s studies. Besides, Omar will also enjoy an internship under the aegis of the MCB, which will forge links for a future collaboration with the latter.
