Africa on top: Madagascar’s Alex Ismail in driver’s seat at Automation and Control Solutions

Alex, who slid comfortably into the driver’s seat at ACS, was until recently President of Honeywell Energy, Safety, and Security (ESS) within ACS, where he was responsible for overseeing five divisions.

Alex Ismail of Madagascar was recently appointed CEO of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions (ACS), in a pat on the back for the emerging continent which is increasing contributing its skilled workforce to the ranks of global business leaders.

The company, a world leader in control solutions for buildings, recorded a turnover of over $16 billion in 2013.

Alex, who slid comfortably into the driver’s seat at ACS, was until recently President of Honeywell Energy, Safety, and Security (ESS) within ACS, where he was responsible for overseeing five divisions.

Before this, he worked nearly 15 years at Honeywell Transportation Systems, a global leader in the development and production of innovative automotive technologies.

At Honeywell Transportation Systems, Alex held various positions such as President of Honeywell Turbo Technologies, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Turbo Technologies for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and India, as well as management positions in sales and marketing.

His final stint in Honeywell Transportation Systems was as the CEO of the company.

He joined Honeywell in 1997 in the Aerospace division, and distinguished his stint with various management positions in the United States and Europe.

Prior to joining Honeywell, Alex spent six years in the textile industry, beginning his career in Socota Group on his native island of Madagascar.

Alex was named Automotive News Eurostar in 2010, an honour widely regarded as the highest for managers in the European automotive industry.

He also appeared as a sector specialist in dozens of publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg / Business Week and Automotive News.

He holds a Masters in Finance from Paris Dauphine University and an MBA from HEC Paris. He is also a certified Six Sigma Black Belt, signifying the highest degree of operational excellence in an organization.

Alex has a passion for classic racing and won the Morocco Rally Classic in 2008.
