The US president, Donald Trump, equivocated when asked whether the US would come to the aid of British troops potentially deployed to Ukraine. Trump said the British could 'take care of themselves very well' and praised the UK army. He then said if the UK needed help, 'I'll always be with the British, I'll always be with them'. After the awkward interaction, Trump asked the UK prime minister, Keir Starmer, whether the UK could 'take on Russia by yourselves' before bursting into laughter
