E-commerce is taking wing in Mauritius as the island’s telecommunications major, Orange, is easing the life of consumers by launching online shopping services.

This facility empowers Mauritians to buy mobile phones and tablets online, with delivery to be done at Orange Shops.

With the creation of a virtual Orange Shop, Orange continues to innovate by providing a more user-friendly experience to its customers when using Orange services and products.

On www.orangeshop.mu, internet users can browse through a catalog, select mobile phones and tablets and buy them without the need to stir from their place, thus saving time.

The payments facility is powered by State Bank of Mauritius (SBM), and offers a highly secure platform for online transactions.

Customers can place orders from their home or office at a time that suits them and the facility is available 24 hours a day.

Those who make their purchases through the virtual Orange Shop will benefit from a ‘special web price’.

Products purchased may be collected the day after the online transaction has been accepted, from Orange Shops in Bagatelle , La Croisette and Port Louis.

Once at the Orange Shop, the buyers can benefit from the assistance of Digital Coaches of Orange for more information on how to use the device and can do the necessary configuration, if needed.

Kapil Reesaul, Commercial Director at Mauritius Telecom, explained that Mauritius Telecom connects 170,000 households to the fixed Internet and boasts more than 300,000 customers who regularly use mobile Internet .

“With changes taking place at the purchasing behavior of Mauritians who are increasingly choosing to buy products and services on the Internet, we wanted to offer them an alternative product distribution channel,” he mentioned.

It may be noted that Mauritius Telecom welcomed Orange to Mauritius on April 17, 2008, and has been associated with them since.

Orange in Mauritius is the commercial brand for the mobile and internet services of Cellplus Mobile Communications Ltd and Telecom Plus Ltd.
