FAAN Commissions Benin Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has commissioned the remodeled Benin Airport terminal in Benin City at the end of this week. The airport is the third to be commissioned among the 11 airports listed under the first phase of the Airport Remodeling Project, initiated by President Goodluck Jonathan as part of his Transformation Agenda in the aviation industry.

The two already commissioned terminals are the Murtala Muhammed Airport Domestic Terminal 1, on October 22, 2012 and the General Aviation Terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on January 21st, 2013.

The remaining eight airports under the first phase, that is Kano, Yola, Kaduna, Calabar, Enugu, Jos, Owerri and Port Harcourt, which are at various stages of completion, will soon be commissioned in quick succession.

The second phase of the project involving the remaining 11 airports in the country is expected to commence by mid 2013.

Top government functionaries, captain of industry and aviation stakeholders are expected to attend the commissioning ceremony.
