First IOR-ARC Economic, Business Conference on July 4-5

India, Mauritius to host first IOR-ARC Biz forum in July, In the light of a decision taken during the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC) forum held in Gurgaon on October 30, 2012,  the first IOR-ARC Economic Business Conference will be held in Mauritius on July 4 and 5. The forum will be jointly held by India as the chair of IOR-ARC and Mauritius.

The event which will take place at the ministerial level seeks to facilitate interaction between ministers of Commerce and Industry of the 20 IOR-ARC Member states and 6 dialogue partners. The different delegations will be accompanied by business people, entrepreneurs and pioneers in the industry who will explore possibilities to expand cooperation in key economic and industrial sectors.

The Mauritius organising committee has proposed to discuss themes such as harnessing growth of the industrial sector in IOR-ARC region, creation of agri-business linkages that seek to address food security and sustainable development and the ocean economy. Discussions will be also held on enhancing investment opportunities and unlocking the potential of services sector such as ICT, tourism and financial services in the IOR-ARC region.

Moreover, there will also be Business-to-Business (B2B) interactions among the delegates and entrepreneurs and sectoral sessions on agriculture and agro-industries, marine resources, tourism, shipping and the service sector. This will help to strengthen and stimulate economic partnerships in the Indian Ocean Rim region.

The joint invitation letter for the conference was signed by the Indian Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles, Anand Sharma and the Mauritius Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Co-operation and International Trade Dr Arvin Boolell. A meeting is being planned between Mauritius and India as the co-hosts to finalise organizational issues pertaining to the conference.
