India-based non-profit organization Bhagwan Mahavir Vikalang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), the makers of the world renowned artificial limb Jaipur Foot, will soon set up a centre in the island economy, in association with Mauritian charitable organisation Global Rainbow Foundation (GRF).
GRF will launch the Jaipur Foot Project in Mauritius after the successful completion of phase two of the Jaipur Foot Project and would call it the ‘Gift of Mobility’.
Following other centers in Columbia, Pakistan and Philippines, the center which will be called ‘Mahaveer Indradhanush Artificial Limb Centre’ is to be set up in Port-Louis.
BMVSS founder and chief patron DR Mehta is in Mauritius for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GRF, a press statement by the organisation said.
“As a gesture, we would gift 100 artificial foot limbs every year to the new centre to enable it to run smoothly and we will also train their personnel free of cost,” Mehta said.
“BMVSS has recently conducted two camps in Mauritius in association with GRF and benefitted 400 amputees by providing them mobility. Thus, inspired by the success of the camps, the GRP proposed to set up a permanent centre with trained personnel,” he added.
Furthermore, he noted that BMVSS has agreed to provide all help and cooperation in setting up the centre in Mauritius.
BMVSS is the world’s largest organisation serving the disabled. This NGO provides all assistance, including artificial limbs, calipers and other aids and appliances, totally free of charge.
Global Rainbow Foundation (GRF) is a Mauritius-based charitable trust which aims at supporting persons with disabilities.
The “Rainbow” symbolizes the diversity of material and psychological help provided to these people to assist them in building up their self-confidence and trust to progress in life with high self-esteem.
The organisation has benefited over 1.3 million people with Jaipur Foot worldwide.
