Frederic Chretien, a French and Mauritian national, has been appointed the General Manager of the Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa, effective October 1, 2013. The property is scheduled to open in December 2013.
Darren Edmonston, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Asia-Pacific, announced September 26 that Chretien had been chosen for the coveted position. He will report to William Visser, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Vice President Operations, Asia-Pacific.
Chretien has around three decades’ experience in hotels, a 14-year-long stint as the General Manager of The Residence, Mauritius, a decade at the InterContinental Hotel Group in France for 10 years and five years with Sun International in the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean.
Chretien, who speaks French, English, German and Italian, graduated in Hotel Management from the Paris Hotel School with a strong background in food and beverage.
Edmonstone said that Chretien brings extensive experience of top-end hotel management in Mauritius to Outrigger. As Outrigger sets out to establish their new property as one of the most desirable destination resorts in the Indian Ocean, Chretien’s leadership skills, local knowledge and food and beverage expertise would serve as a great asset indeed, he noted.
Earlier this year, Hawaii-based Outrigger Hotels and Resorts had announced its acquisition of the Movenpick Resort and Spa Mauritius from Dubai’s Kingdom Hotel Investments. The luxury beachfront 181-room property closed to guests on May 29 for extensive refurbishments and it is expected to open its doors to holidaymakers visiting Mauritius by the end of the year.
