Have you cancelled a trip from Australia to the US? Or been detained at the border? Tell us your story

The number of people travelling to the US has plummeted since Donald Trump’s inauguration. Have you changed plans due to new border policies?

Australians are increasingly avoiding travel to the US under Donald Trump’s second presidency, data shows, with forecasters expecting tourist numbers to plummet further throughout the year.

Guardian Australia has reported on the case of an Australian man with a working visa who was detained and deported on returning to the US. The man alleged border officials called him “retarded” and boasted “Trump is back in town”.

An award-winning Australian comedian cancelled a planned trip to the US after receiving legal advice that she could be stopped at the border due to her previous jokes about the Trump administration.

There is unease among Australian academics, with many refusing to attend US conferences for fear of being detained.

Gender-diverse Australians have been warned they may face visa delays after Trump’s executive order on gender. There are also reports of travellers having their devices searched at the border and being refused entry.
