‘Île Maurice Tourisme Awards’ to reward best hotels in 21 categories

The third edition of the ‘Île Maurice Tourisme Awards’ (Mauritius Tourism Awards) is being organized with the aim of rewarding the best in tourism in 2014 through voting by internet users.

The ‘Île Maurice Tourisme Awards’ have 21 distinct categories that recognize the changing face of the Mauritian tourism industry.

The award aims at encouraging quality, excellence and innovation in the Mauritian tourism industry.

This year, the ‘Île Maurice Tourisme Awards,’ the only one of its kind in this part of the Indian Ocean, includes new categories such as culture, Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), social, and even Boutique Hotels.
This award follows the evolution of the Mauritian tourist industry. It has been a long time since Mauritius, through its culture and its identity, had been so present in the tourism space and the Mauritian Island is doubtless headed for a decisive turn.

This year as well it comes as no great surprise that LUX* Resorts and Hotels has collected most votes in the category of “Best Hotel Group of the Year”. The group, managed by CEO Paul Jones, has by-passed Attitude Resorts, Constance Hotels and Resorts, Beachcomber and Sun Resorts according to votes cast by internet users over www.ilemaurice-tourisme.info.
At the level of hotel groups, it is the Attitude Group which puts forward the best Mauritian cultural identity in its hotels. The Attitude Group also distinguishes itself with three other titles  taken by “Zilwa”, considered as the most creative hotel of the year, most authentically Mauritian and best value for money. “Paradise Cove”, of the same group, picks up, the title of “Best boutique hotel” of the year.

The most committed Mauritian group socially is the “Beachcomber” group whose multiple initiatives were the reason behind users votes.

The Constance Hotels and Resorts Group, for its part, has undeniable bright spots: Constance Le Prince Maurice was the most romantic hotel of the year and best Spa of the year, while Constance Belle Mare Plage was noted as the best golf hotel of the year.

As for the most spectacular tourist activity of the year, it was dolphin-centered activities conducted by tour operator “Coquille Bonheur” that won the internet users vote. The DMC managed by Christian Lefèvre also won the title of “Best tour operator of the year”, beating SummerTimes, Feelings DMC and Mauritours.

Finally, the arrival of the second A380 of Emirates Airline is considered as the event having most contributed to the promotion of Mauritius abroad last year. As for the number one tourist activity, it is the dolphin sighting catamaran, visits at Grand Bassin and the National Botanical Garden.
