According to a recent publication from Statistics Mauritius, for the 1st Quarter of 2013, relating to Export Oriented Enterprises, it shows that the number of EOE decreased from 337 to 329 due to the closures of 8 enterprises producing “Textile yarn and fabrics”, “Wearing apparel”, “Jewellery & related articles” and “Toys & carnival articles”.
Statistics Mauritius also found out that the total employment in EOE increased by 721 (+1.3%) from 54,187 to 54,908. Employment of Mauritians went own by 743 from 34,988 to 34,245, while employment of foreign workers increased by 1,464 from 19,199 to 20,663.
There were 2,435 job creations due to the expansion of existing enterprises and 1,714 job losses, due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises and through the closure of 8 enterprises.
EOE exports amounted to R 10,914 million, 10.3% lower compared to the previousquarter and 0.3% higher compared to the corresponding quarter of 2012.
EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ certificate as well as those manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the Board of Investment.
