Mauritius finance minister inaugurates ABC Bank headquarters at WEAL House

The new headquarters and main branch of the ABC Banking Corporation at the WEAL House at ‘Place d’Armes’ was inaugurated yesterday, February 11, 2015, amid a festive and friendly atmosphere.

The Mauritius finance minister, Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo was the guest of honour at the event, which was also graced by the Minister of Financial Services & Good Governance, Roshi Bhadain, Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, Ramesh Basant Roi, as well as Professor Donald Ah-Chuen, Managing Director of ABC Banking Corporation Ltd.

Situated in the heart of Port-Louis, the strategic location of the building offers various advantages to clients and partners alike, while also evidencing the remarkable progress of the Bank after only a few years of operation as a commercial bank.

“Right from the start, our bank took the wise decision of adopting the best technology and systems available in the global economy with emphasis on the quality of its services and customer care,” said the newly appointed Chairman of ABC Banking Corporation, Bernard Yeung Sik Yuen.

“The bank has grown from a total deposit base of Rs 2 billion a few years ago to over Rs 10 billion today and is moving forward on the path of progress and prosperity. Furthermore, it is playing a valuable role in the growth of the economy and social development of the country,” he added.

He pointed out that even amid the slowdown of the global economy, the ABC Banking Corporation has been able to find a place on the international stage, winning the ‘Best Private Bank in Mauritius 2014’ title by Euromoney.

“These accolades have contributed towards building the reputation of Mauritius as a credible international financial center,” said Bernard Yeung Sik Yuen.

For his part, Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo thanked the Ah Chuen family for their determination and dedication in growing the family business, and contributing to national pride.

“We are still facing the repercussions of the economic crisis, where the banking sector is reeling under a harsh, volatile and unpredictable environment,” said Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo.

He noted that despite the challenging conditions, ABC bank has undertaken the transition to a robust financial services major, comparing the ABC Banking Corporation to “a plane that has successfully taken-off.”
