Mauritius’ Phoenix Beverages remitted Rs 4 million to 22 non-governmental organizations (NGO) under its CSR wing, the Phoenix Foundation, on Thursday, June 25.
The event was held at the Phoenix Club in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Showkutally Soodhun, newly appointed Mayor of Vacoas/Phoenix Navin Ramsoondur, CEO of Phoenix Beverages Bernard Theys, as well as NGO representatives.
This charitable initiative of Phoenix Foundation is not a first for the organisation which, since 2009, has already helped numerous NGOs with sums totalling several million rupees.
This year, Phoenix Beverages Ltd’s CSR committee members chose to support 22 NGOs. In line with this philosophy, committee members called upon the employees to allow them to become beneficiaries, which also helps employees commit to the causes upheld by the Phoenix Foundation.
The selected NGOs support multiple charitable endeavours, including education of vulnerable children and handicapped persons, sports participation, early childhood development, environmental protection, and improvement of health, among others.
Phoenix Foundation also provides financial contributions to Rodrigues, where the company counts 27 employees till date. So, Link to Life Rodrigues, an organization working towards screening of breast and uterine cancer, received support for its project.
Bernard Theys, CEO of Phoenix Beverages, noted, “As a company contributing significantly to national development, it is our duty to support these organizations that undertake absolutely remarkable work on the ground. They help people to be better integrated in society and well educated.”
“In the Phoenix Foundation, we wish to make a commitment by strengthening the initiatives on which we embark today. Furthermore, we intend to encourage our employees to put more into the projects CSR,” he added.
On his part, Showkutally Soodhun noted, “It is a pleasure for me to be associated with this CSR initiative of Phoenix Beverages, which I heartily congratulate them on. More and more private sector companies are taking particular pockets of poverty under their wings.”
“It is eminently to their credit that they are contributing to the fight against social problems. It is also essential to emphasize the remarkable work realized by these NGOs that are committed to help people in vulnerable situations,” he added.
Among other pillars supporting its social responsibility framework, Phoenix Foundation plans to put a lot more effort into initiatives such as protecting the environment as well as preventing alcohol abuse.
