Mauritius’ Swan Group marks International Day of Charity with Rs 1.45mn grant to 10 NGOs

In line with the International Day of Charity, Mauritius’ insurance major Swan Group handed out checques of a total value of Rs 1.45 million, to 10 non-governmental organisations (NGO), yesterday September 4, 2014 at the Swan Group Centre, Port Louis.

Among the 10 NGOs which work for the wellbeing of the Mauritian society within various sectors are: Link in Life, whose main purpose is to provide support and counseling to cancer patients and their families; Étoile d’Espérance, which helps female alcoholics; Chrysalide, a rehabilitation center for recovering female drug addicts; Muscular Dystrophy Association, which aims at promoting the wellbeing of persons suffering from this disorder; and Friends in Hope, which helps people suffering from mental illness and their families.

“This International Day of Charity has been proclaimed in order to sensitize and mobilize people, NGOs and other actors of the social world to volunteer in philanthropic activities,” said Louis Rivalland, Group Chief Executive of the Swan Group.

“It is of major importance for our group as real charity is to go towards others and to help them with compassion. Hence, this can contribute to consolidate solidarity and mutual comprehension,” he further added.

This financial support will allow these NGOs to help the poor; the sick and the handicapped; and the least favored of the society and that through several projects.
