Mauritius telco Bharat Telecom`s sales rise but losses continue to mount

Mauritius-based telecommunications firm Bharat Telecom saw revenues rise 134% to Rs 6.87 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2014 compared to the same quarter last year when it notched up sales of Rs 2.93 million.
Last quarter`s sales also represented a 34% improvement over the immediately preceding quarter when its sales stood at Rs 5.13 million.
Even as sales have risen, losses continued to mount as the company registered a net loss before tax of Rs 21.57 million, which is a rise of 15.2% compared to the year-ago period where it showed a post-tax loss of Rs 18.73 million.
Also, the company witnessed a marginal, 3.75% rise in losses compared to the last quarter ending March 2014 when Bharat Telecom registered a post-tax loss of Rs 20.79 million.
Although the losses incurred by Bharat Telecom are intensifying, the company has taken significant strides in implementing its scheduled projects.
In the last quarter ended 30 June 2014, Bharat Telecom completed networking activities in areas such as the Airport, Rose Belle, Chemin Grenier up to Bel Ombre, where further progress is expected by the end of this month itself.
In addition, the company completed the construction of two Optical Line Terminal Equipment / Exchange rooms in Grand Baie and FUEL.
These two exchange rooms are expected to serve the needs of all potential subscribers in these areas.

The north region comprises highly-dense residential areas as well as corporate areas concentrated in the coastal zones.
These areas include Triolet, Morcellement St. Andre, Plaine des Papayes, Riviere du Rempart and the surrounding villages.
