Mauritius textiles in focus as Enterprise Mauritius to lead delegation to Texworld US

The island economy’s premier trade promotion agency Enterprise Mauritius will lead a delegation of eight textile and apparel firms to Texworld USA, scheduled to be held in Javits Convention Centre, New York from 22 to 24 July 2014.
This year will witness the sixth consecutive participation of Mauritian operators in the fair, which is North America’s largest sourcing event.
Held bi-annually, Texworld USA provides the opportunity to meet directly with a wide range of manufacturers from Asia, the Middle East, North America and from many other regions from around the globe.
Texworld USA debuted in July 2006 in New York City, and since then, the show has been held biannually in January and July.
The seventeenth edition of the International Apparel Sourcing Show is a must-visit forum for apparel fabric buyers, research and product development specialist, designers, merchandisers and overseas sourcing professionals.
The fair will enable participants from Mauritius to exhibit their products, showcase their know-how, and increase their visibility while allowing foreign buyers and visitors to discover the new products that are made in Mauritius.
According to Dev Chamroo, CEO at Enterprise Mauritius, textile and apparel operators have each time expressed satisfaction as far as networking and business opportunities are concerned.
“For example, Craft Aid has secured a niche market for organic cotton and is today exporting to the US. Wensum Ltd (ex-Corona) has also established contact with a US buyer and is manufacturing for the US market,” he said.
Texworld USA remains a very important platform in the USA for buyers to source products from domestic and international apparel manufacturers.
The last edition of Texworld attracted 328 exhibitors from 15 countries and 3,297 visitors. In this year’s edition, some 370 exhibitors and 4,000 visitors are expected.
The event will feature many of the world’s top apparel producing companies from around the globe including Mauritius, Colombia, Pakistan, China, Guatemala, the United States and first time exhibitors from Mongolia.
Messe Frankfurt Inc. organizes the International Apparel Sourcing Show together with the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT TEX).
With a full capacity, sold out show floor containing over 180 exhibitors from around the globe, attendees will have more apparel sourcing options than ever.
Returning national pavilions from Colombia and Mauritius will be showcasing their top suppliers along with first time pavolion participant, Guatemala, focusing on woven and knitted garments, most exhibitors supply activewear, childrenswear, menswear and womenswear to the international markets.
In addition, the companies offer a variety of customer-oriented services such as contract manufacturing, ODM (origin design manufacturing) and private label development.
Mauritius has since the advent of African Growth and Opportunities Act taken various initiatives to penetrate the US market.
