Mauritius has been chosen to play host to the eight edition of the Indian Ocean Ports and Logistics Conference and Exhibition, which is the largest container ports, shipping and transport logistics trade event serving the Indian Ocean islands.
The Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA) will organize the 8th Indian Ocean Ports and Logistics 2014 Exhibition and Conference, to be held at the Le Meridien on January 23 and 24, 2014.
An annual event, the last edition of the Indian Ocean Ports and Logistics Conference and Exhibition was held in Mozambique in February, 2013.
During the exhibition and conference, 350 senior executive harbour masters, harbour engineers, port engineers, maintenance supervisors and procurement decision makers will be present as 35 exhibitors and sponsors showcase the latest products and services.
Such large-scale events serve to reinforce measures under Budget 2014 on port development where Finance Minister Xavier-Luc Duval highlighted that the port plays an important role in the government’s vision of Mauritius as an ocean economy and that investments must be undertaken to improve port connectivity.
The cumulative investments in developing port infrastructure will amount to Rs 3.2 billion in 2014 and an additional Rs 2.3 billion will be required over the following two years.
