Mauritius to sign two agreements with India on transportation & ocean economy

Mauritius and India are building further on their historical ties, with two important agreements set to be signed between the governments of the two countries in the fields of sea & air transportation, as well as the ocean economy.

The government of Mauritius has expressed its intent to sign two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with India during the forthcoming visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

To elaborate, the first MoU pertains to the improvement of sea and air transportation facilities at Agalega and the other relates to cooperation in the field of ocean economy.
 
Furthermore, the MoU for the improvement of sea and air transportation facilities at Agalega is a project that comprises the construction of a jetty for berthing of ships and the rehabilitation and repaving of the runaway.
 
It also makes provision for the installation of a power generation facility, the setting up of a water desalination plant and the construction of a National Coast Guard Post.
 
The second MoU relating to cooperation in the field of ocean economy has for its objective the need to strengthen and expand cooperation in the field of ocean economy, fisheries and aquaculture, seaport development, shipping and green tourism.
