MTML introduces 4G services; slashes international roaming rates by 87%

Mahanagar Telephone (Mauritius) Limited (MTML), one of the fastest growing & most affordable mobile service providers of Mauritius, has launched 4G (LTE) services in Mauritius on the 18 May 2015, in the presence of Honourable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Minister (Technology, Communication & Innovation) and High commissioner of India, Chief Managing Director, and Director MTML.
MTML is also upgrading its 3G network to HSPA (3.5G) all across the island, thereby enabling its customers to experience data rate up to 21 Mbps. The network is being upgraded with an additional investment of approximately Rs 400 million, thus taking total investments of MTML in Mauritius to Rs 1.5 billion so far.
China’s Huawei Technologies & ZTE Corporation, the two leading telecom equipment manufacturers in the world, have supplied the latest state-of-the-art technology and equipment.
MTML is working out an attractive tariff plan for data usage of its customers, which will be announced in a few weeks after taking due approval from the ICT authority.
Also, with reduced international roaming rates, CHILI users can now roam Europe (including Russia), India, China, Australia & New Zealand at just Rs 5/min for receiving calls which is almost 87% lower than present market rates.
The outgoing call and data rates while roaming have been reduced by up to 80% and call rate for other roaming destinations has been reduced.

Also, while commenting on the slashed international roaming tariff, Sanjay Garg said “The continuous feedback from our customers indicates how important it is to travel without the fear of high roaming charges. So, we launched very aggressive international roaming tariffs. We will continuously add new countries to ensure our customers can enjoy their travel and do not miss out on all the fun and benefits of having a mobile phone.”
Pravind Jugnauth acknowledged Indian contribution to the ICT sector in Mauritius and said that he shall ensure a level playing field for all operators in Mauritius.
Moving forward into 2015 and beyond, MTML will continue to invest in premium technologies and network infrastructure by adding 100 more BTSs to provide better network quality to customers.
