Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa opened its doors to welcome its first guests yesterday, following an extensive renovation program which started May 2013.
The 45th property of the Outrigger Enterprises Group, the resort in Mauritius marks the first time that the company has expanded its brand in the Indian Ocean.
Surrounded on the landward side by expansive sugar cane plantations, the property at Bel Ombre was purchased by the Outrigger Enterprises Group in May 2013.
The Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa is a new deluxe property with 181 sea-facing rooms which offers an enviable beachfront location alongside the turquoise lagoons of the Indian Ocean.
Following the renovations, there are a variety of facilities which are now open to the public, including the majority of rooms, the relaxed Edgewater and Mercado restaurants, the trendy Bar Bleu, and nearly all public spaces.
Darren Edmonstone, managing director, Asia-Pacific, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts, stated that the strategic commitment of Outrigger to open stunning resorts in attractive and iconic warm water beachfront locations around the world is shown through the company’s brand expansion into the Indian Ocean.
“Ownership of the property in Mauritius gives Outrigger the unique opportunity to share the locally-rich sense of place and discovery that guests look for when they go on holiday,” he said.
Tourists coming from Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa have the option of direct flights to Mauritius from their respective locations covering Perth, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Paris, London, Dubai, Johannesburg and numerous cities in Africa.
The hotel is centrally located at a 45 minute-drive from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International airport and a 90-minute drive from Port-Louis, the capital of Mauritius.
“The Outrigger dream for Mauritius has come true. From today we are delivering our acclaimed Outrigger hospitality that blends the needs of the most discerning traveller with the charm and tradition of an early 17th century Mauritian sugar cane plantation on the island’s southern coast,” said Frederic Chretien, Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa General Manager.
On April 18, 2014, an official grand opening ceremony and celebration will be hosted by the Outrigger Group.
