At Infotech 2013, the first thing that strikes you are the colors and the crowds. Buzzing with activity and excitement, even the otherwise expansive venue pales in comparison to the huge crowds and it looks like the 20th edition of Mauritius’ premier ICT event is set to hit the 100,000 people mark.
Infotech 2013 is being held at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre in Pailles from Thursday to Sunday to generate awareness on emerging technologies.
Besides, the National Computer Board (NCB) wants to leverage the event to provide business opportunities to the ICT sector by showcasing knowledge, products and services centered on the ICT space.
Among the 43 exhibitors at Infotech 2013, some stalls to watch out for are Courts, Orange, Galaxy, Mauritius National ID card, Mediacall, Ishop, Elite School of Business and Finance, Radha computers Ltd, and Fastclick.
Leal Communications and Informatics has made its presence felt at all Infotech events, and its senior account executive, Shrinu Appadoo, is representing Ishop, Leal’s retail outlet.
“Infotech is a must-visit for all Mauritians, especially for tech enthusiasts and the younger generation in general who are interested in new technologies,” said Shrinu Appadoo.
“At the Infotech, we are presenting the Mac Pro and graphic tablets which are suitable for designers to make their drawings appear digital, and GoPro cameras which are more convenient for people practicing extreme sports. Besides, we are putting out some interesting offers on Ipad,” he added.
Job opportunities are offered by the Mediacall at the Infotech, also a veteran participant at the ICT event.
“The call centre proposes internet services and it comprises of customer services for information, a hotline service for technical assistance and telesales. The objective of being present at the Infotech is to recruit interested candidates and to generate heightened awareness for our brand,” said Karen, a trainer at Mediacall.
The Elite school of business and finance is proposing IT courses like web design, photoshop, IT for beginners and networking which will spur job creation.
“It is the first time that we are participating because we know there are many youngsters who will come to the event. These people might be unemployed or still looking for a career, so we are here to guide them. There is great demand for IT and language courses,” said Pamela, representing Elite school of business and finance at Infotech.
Radha Computers is a first time participant and is presenting a cutting-edge product, the TP Link, at Infotech 2013.
“TP Link is a solution for Wi-Fi and internet connection issues. It is user-friendly and go-green. We have been getting a good response to the product and are ready to support and provide quality services to customers,” said the company representative.
Nowadays, there is a craze over mobile phones, laptops and tablets and more people of varying age groups want to be informed about new technologies being showcased at the Infotech.
“I came here to find out about new technologies. The products and services being unveiled here are certainly interesting,” said Jeremy, a tourist visiting Mauritius.
“The purpose of my visit is to get familiar with new, upcoming technologies. Overall, I found the Infotech to be an interesting event,” said Anjeli, a student.
“I am here to seek out new technologies and am particularly interested in tablets. The prices are affordable compared to last year and there are more products available,” said Ashvin, another student.
Besides the opportunity to showcase their products and services, a meeting platform for local ICT operators is offered in order to develop collaborations and to deal with prospective technology partners as well as customers.
