According to a news released by the Mauritian Airline Company, last December, Air Mauritius will open a direct flight route from Chengdu, China to Mauritius during the Chinese Spring Festival, this year.
Air Mauritius which plans to cooperate with Sichuan Airlines Travel Group will open 4 Chengdu-Mauritius flights in form of chartered planes.
The first flight will fly from Chengdu on February 5th, 2015, then February 13th, February 20th and finally February 27th all performed by Air Mauritius Airbus A340-300.
By then, Chengdu will become the 4th city in China to have direct flights to Mauritius after Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
The aim behind this initiative is to encourage a maximum of Chinese tourists in Mauritius during the upcoming Spring Festival.
In addition, according to Statistics Mauritius, monthly tourism arrivals for December in regards to China has registered a significant decline, to be set at 3, 506 tourists in December 2014 compared to 4,552 for November 2014.
However, on a year-on-year basis we can note down that there has been a major increase, from January to December 2014 where Statistics Mauritius has registered 63, 365 tourists from china compare to 41, 913 for January to December 2013.
