Virtual take-off: Emirates boosts mobile presence with iPad app

Dubai’s premier airline has strengthened its mobile presence by launching “The Emirates App” for iPad on the App Store. So, ready for a virtual take-off?

Emirates, which has entered into an extended and enhanced commercial agreement with Air Mauritius over the next decade, and is continuously strengthening its network in the Indian Ocean region, is now offering its customers the ultimate experience of convenience on their fingertips.

Those who love travelling, or want to know more about the world, can now explore more than 130 destinations across six continents over the Emirates app with the touch of a button.

“The ‘Emirates App’ has been designed for those who love to travel – whom we call ‘globalistas’ – and those who are curious about the world, who like to be connected either by mobile or digitally and want this convenience at their fingertips,” said Patrick Branelly , Vice President , Corporate Communications (Marketing and Brand, Product, Publishing, Digital and Events), Emirates Airlines.

Customers can also directly download the application or visit the App Store and search for Emirates.

The Emirates iPad app also allows customers to easily manage every aspect of their booking whether on the ground, in the air or in the comfort of their home.

They can make a reservation, choose their seats and meals, manage their ‘Skywards’ account, do an online check-in and download their boarding card directly through the application, among others.

And, the trend of using mobile phones and iPads for bookings is catching on in some markets already, while emerging countries can be expected to join the bandwagon soon.

“In some markets, we already have around 20% of the visitors to the emirates.com website using their iPads, and customers are increasingly using their mobile phones and iPads to book and manage their travel. The ‘Emirates App’ has been designed to make this process even easier, faster and more convenient. More innovations are already in the development stage,” Branelly added.

Information relating to personal details and flights on the product and service are available in the application itself, so users can have equal access to the app in offline mode.

Moreover, Emirates has already seen positive results from the test launch in its home market, and hopes to replicate the success in others.

“We launched the ‘Emirates App’ at the Apple Store in UAE, our local market, a few weeks ago and the response has been extremely positive. We are now working to make the application available on iPhone and Android, and introduce even more new features in the coming months,” concluded Branelly.
