Globalaw, an international network of independent law firms, has extended its reach to Mauritius by adding 5 St James Court to its network.
Mauritian law firm 5 St James Court comprises a set of rising and senior self-employed barristers who offer expertise in all aspects of law in Mauritius. They provide special focus on Arbitration, Banking, Civil Law, Commercial Law, Company Law, Insolvency, Financial Services, Trusts and Tax.
Following on the heels of London-based law firm Eversheds which announced a tie up with Mahons Attorneys in Port Louis, as well as Africa’s largest law firm ENSafrica, which announced its Mauritius foray in November, Globalaw’s entry into Mauritius evidences the focus of global law firms on the emerging island economy.
And, with more than 50% of all foreign investment routed through the island nation being directed at Africa, Mauritius indeed offers a rich base for international law firms seeking to tap into the African continent.
Besides, Globalaw has also made inroads into the Middle East and South East Asia, picking up five new firms in Oman, Philippines, Egypt, Vietnam and Cambodia.
The new firms added in these locations are: RMK – Rashid Mohamed El Murtada & Co. (Oman); Zambrano and Gruba Law Offices (Philippines); Maher Milad Iskander & Co. (Egypt); KCP Ltd (Cambodia); and Kelvin Chia Partnership (Vietnam).
Bryan Birkeland, partner at Dallas-based law firm Jackson Walker, which is a founding member of the Globalaw network, said that the six new firms added to their network are of the highest quality and will prove a huge asset as they expand into important new jurisdictions in the Middle East and South East Asia.
Established in 1994, Globalaw comprises over 110 independent law firms across 85 countries worldwide. Counting approximately 4,500 lawyers in its ranks, the firm is now the go-to network for businesses seeking to do business globally.
